Educator Resources have been created to support early learning through our On the Reef story books. Each resource sheet links the books to the Australian EYLF (Version 2.0), UK EYFS, and CASEL used worldwide, highlighting key learning outcomes and practical teaching ideas. They provide background on the developmental theories behind the stories, discussion prompts for group time, and creative extension activities such as art, play, and reflection. Together, these resources help educators use Quinn, Shelly, and their friends to nurture children’s identity, wellbeing, and social-emotional growth in playful, meaningful ways.

Underpinning the On the Reef series are well-established child development theories, including Piaget’s stages of thinking, Vygotsky’s social learning, Erikson’s focus on autonomy and identity, Bowlby and Ainsworth’s attachment theory, and Bandura’s social modelling. Together with contemporary SEL frameworks, these perspectives provide a strong educational foundation for each book, giving families confidence that the stories are more than just entertainment, they are tools for growth.

By combining playful storytelling, relatable characters, and these trusted educational principles, the On the Reef series gives young children a positive start to learning while helping them feel seen, supported, and understood.
